September 25, 2009

Grace had a lot of work to do today -- she put on her dad's badge from his conference, sat on his office floor and drew animals while he worked from home. She was happy there and didn't exceed my "whisk you off to the doctor" threshold for sickness so she stayed home.

Suki and Kate came with me to the pediatrician -- Suki because her cough has turned to bronchitis and Kate because she had her 18 month well visit today and was a little sick besides.

Kate figured out how to open the door and make a break for it, so I had to camp out in front of the door in this chair and read for a while.

Kate and Suki went to their push/pull game.

A mighty push from Kate sends Suki to the ground.

A kiss -- these girls are so sweet.

Sweetly throttling.

We had to go pick up Suki's antibiotic (we were happy to realize Kate just has a cold but you should hear Suki's cough). There was time to play with the flowers out in front for a little while.

Car cart fun.

Back home, Grace shows off her drawing of Tyrone. She was so proud and also so relieved to be exempted from today's visit!

Between 12 and 24 months our pediatrician expects children to grow 3-5 inches and gain between 4-8 pounds. In the past six months Kate's gained 4 inches and 4 pounds so her weight gain is right on track for a baby her age but her height gain is off the charts. At the visit today her doctor predicted she'll wind up between 5' 10" and 6' tall. For now, he says her weight is appropriate for her height, which in turn is all appropriate for a three year old.

We also talked about her speech delay -- she doesn't pronounce any word consistently well, loses words she's learned, but has excellent receptive language skills. None of us (David, the doctor or me) are worried about this yet, I think there's going to be a big leap forward by her 2 year visit.

Finally, especially for Granny, I talked to the doctor about the potential strabismus and he said he believes it is a pseudostrabismus if it's anything but we'll keep an eye on it. Get it? An EYE on it? Oh, I do crack myself up :) Thanks for thinking of your granddaughter.
