Everyone was so glad to have David back today!

Can you see who's getting smooched?

Katie in her doorway bouncer!

Just look at those little hams. Love them!

Reenacting a scene from her birthday video.

Today we had a last minute trip to Michael's to get the last supplies for Grace's party this Sunday. Because apparently I need to take whatever double-sided tape estimates I think are reasonable and then just double them. I will never learn. The girls had lots of fun, though -- Suki loved running around and Grace was relieved there were no mummies and that she got to choose one duck. It was a compromise from her idea that she ought to get at least ten.

Then we got to play outside a bit in the warm wind. We got inside just before the rain started to fall.

Ready for drop off at preschool.

I braved the post office and then the grocery store with Kate and Suki.

Sook loves the balloons she gets from Harris Teeter!

We even found some duck shaped crackers for a little snacky treat. Grace adored them.

February 25, 2009

We had the most wonderful day today celebrating Grace's birthday. She dressed in her birthday shirt from Granny and then came downstairs for monkey pancakes. While we were getting breakfast made the mailman rang the door and dropped off a package from Grandma, Grace was delighted to get a book full of all kinds of big words for her to learn. Suki and I gave her the cards we made her and then we watched the video from Dad. He recorded a special birthday message for her and she loved it, demanding to see it over and over. She carried around the tiny wooden duck so that she would know he was thinking of her, carried it around all day and even took it up for her nap, "for a little birthday treat." Grace could choose anything she wanted to do today and she chose the library, to visit the gorilla there. We had so much fun reading books, especially Cynthia Rylant's Birthday Presents. Then she wanted some Chick-Fil-A lunch and so we went through the drive through and came on home. As soon as she was in the house she wanted to see more of her Dad's video. We had a birthday call from Granny and then it was time for a birthday nap.

After her nap she had a cranky spell and sadly that was when Grandma called. She rallied in time for her call with her Dad. We had a great talk with him and ate a quick dinner. Then it was time for Grace's birthday treat -- she chose chocolate pudding with whipped cream and a cherry. These three sisters are playing together a lot more now and we don't have to be quite so careful of physical play with Kate so the three of them were laughing uproariously at bedtime. It was a very sweet, fun day and at the end of it, Grace gave me a kiss on the cheek and out of the blue said "Hi Mom. It's good to meet you." We feel just the same way, it's just hard to believe we've been feeling this way for four years now.
