June 1, 2009

This summer I decided to follow Grace's preschool teacher's advice to continue their learning, socialization and the habits they learned this past year in a few ways. Dance class and swimming lessons and play dates are some of the things we're doing. Another is an idea of a family camp with a weekly focus on different subjects and activities planned for here at home, in the community, little crafts and cooking lessons, etc. I think it's going to be a lot of fun. This week's theme is gardening and things that grow, so we jumped right in by planting some seeds this morning. Here, Grace prepares the soil.

Suki takes her turn.

Filing nasturtium seeds to help them germinate quickly and easily.

Measuring to see how deep the soil should be to cover the seeds.

Sowing marigold seeds.

A kiss for a captive Kate.

We also planted some zinnias, then gave the seeds a drink.

Suki waters the tiny seeds.

My helpers come racing back with sticks so that we can label our pots.

Our happy planting crew with their handiwork.

I couldn't resist Grace's expression in this picture.

Then we positioned our pots in the sunshine and vowed to water them daily.

Suki clutches her measuring tape.

Looking at the sun that will warm the soil and help our seeds germinate.

A very happy girl to be able to move around freely.

Happy with her gorilla.

Kate will do this with sticks, straws, etc. Then she loves to shake her head back and forth. I have no idea what it's about but it's hilarious.

Ready to chase.

Happy in the sun.

A tape measure hat?

Curly Kate watches Suki.

One shoe off, one shoe on -- this is a mighty funny joke for Grace.
