July 4, 2009

Grace and David share a sweet moment after breakfast.

A little kiss.

These patriotic beauties are ready to go to our neighborhood parade!

Grace's outfit just about demanded pigtails.

An impromptu hug.

Swooping in for a kiss.

Running hand in hand.

Chasing in the driveway.

Our little sparkler.

All loaded up!

Suki would not let go of that red handle for anything.

A kiss for Grace before the parade begins.

A cheerful Kate.

Applauding after the anthem.

The fire truck was a new addition this year -- the sound startled my girls but they were mostly fine with it.

Then we adjourned to the parking area near the tennis courts for some refreshments and a chance to catch up with friends.

Looking down for some treats -- I'm not sure what the plan was but there were preteens flinging wrapped candy all over the place.

Munching some Smarties.

Kate and Grace were content to sit in the stroller and take in the hectic scene.

Scout and Suki with their popsicles.

Suki always -thinks- she likes popsicles, she -wants- to like popsicles, but she always hopes they aren't going to be quite so -cold-.

Marcia, Viviana and Valentina, Grace and Kate, and then David and Antonio at the refreshments area.

Viviana comes to visit Kate. Here's a shot of Kate and Vivian from three months ago, and one from six months ago. They are growing and changing so fast!

Then we came back to our house for some pool time!

We had a small picnic and were glad that Marcia and Valentina could join us!

A little cross after a surprising splash down in the water.

Wrapped in a warm towel.

Watermelon was a tremendous hit today.

After naps we went to our friends' house for dinner. Kate woke up from her nap very cranky and with a slight fever (100, nothing compared to our Memorial Day shenanigans). Still, it was enough so that David and Kate stayed home.

Grace and Suki out with Valentina and Erin.

Grace, Allison, Erin, Suki and Valentina. They had a blast kicking a soccer ball around, running up and down the hill, and just chasing each other around.

Back at home, Kate had a very fun bedtime routine with David. Even when medicated she seemed to be feeling unwell -- it just didn't make sense to keep her up late for fireworks.

Grace brought glow bracelets as a present for her friends. After dinner we cracked them to set them to glowing and assembled the jewelry. There was a vague expectation that they might help attract fireflies.

Grace, Suki, Valentina and Erin try to track down some fireflies.

Allison shows Suki and Grace the fireflies in the insect trap.

More watermelon!

Grace was so sweet with David and me while we watched the fireworks -- they started at 9:45 this year and it was amazing to me how polite and pleasant she was even at this late hour. Suki was lovely as well but got so anxious about the noise of fireworks that she wound up climbing into my lap trying to hide from them. When I told her that she could go into our house she jumped at the chance. After the fireworks show the girls had no problem hopping right into bed. What a fun Fourth of July!
