The fire truck was a new addition this year -- the sound startled my girls but they were mostly fine with it.
Then we adjourned to the parking area near the tennis courts for some refreshments and a chance to catch up with friends.
Looking down for some treats -- I'm not sure what the plan was but there were preteens flinging wrapped candy all over the place.
Suki always -thinks- she likes popsicles, she -wants- to like popsicles, but she always hopes they aren't going to be quite so -cold-.
Viviana comes to visit Kate. Here's a shot of Kate and Vivian from three months ago, and one from six months ago. They are growing and changing so fast!
After naps we went to our friends' house for dinner. Kate woke up from her nap very cranky and with a slight fever (100, nothing compared to our Memorial Day shenanigans). Still, it was enough so that David and Kate stayed home.
Grace, Allison, Erin, Suki and Valentina. They had a blast kicking a soccer ball around, running up and down the hill, and just chasing each other around.
Back at home, Kate had a very fun bedtime routine with David. Even when medicated she seemed to be feeling unwell -- it just didn't make sense to keep her up late for fireworks.
Grace brought glow bracelets as a present for her friends. After dinner we cracked them to set them to glowing and assembled the jewelry. There was a vague expectation that they might help attract fireflies.
Grace was so sweet with David and me while we watched the fireworks -- they started at 9:45 this year and it was amazing to me how polite and pleasant she was even at this late hour. Suki was lovely as well but got so anxious about the noise of fireworks that she wound up climbing into my lap trying to hide from them. When I told her that she could go into our house she jumped at the chance. After the fireworks show the girls had no problem hopping right into bed. What a fun Fourth of July!
