August 4, 2010

Grace had a special trip to a neighborhood jungle garden today, with the promise of lots of fun science experiments. Kate had her speech therapy this morning and Grace arrived five minutes late for the start of camp. Grace missed glittering a blue morpho butterfly and didn't handle her disappointment very carefully but pulled things together so she could attend the field trip. She was so glad she did, there were lots of animals to see and beautiful plants and she loved it. Both of her teachers remarked to me how fearless she was about the snakes, but Grace isn't really afraid of any animals. In fact, today she asked that the live snakes be draped all over her and the teachers obliged her. They say they got a picture and I can't wait to see it.

With Gorilla in her gorilla shirt.

Today is National Chocolate Chip Day and we tried to make chocolate chip cookies.

Suki wanted me to dance to the beat!

Scooping the dough onto the sheet.

A little hug during the scoop transfer.

Then we painted while the cookies baked.

Abstract thinking during her abstract painting.

For the first time in decades I scorched the bottoms of these cookies. I let them cool, sliced off the bottoms and they're a little messier but still delicious. Here, the girls have an unexpected snack in the car after petting a very sweet dog.

Grace sings a song about a monkey in the jungle.

Also: Kate managed several jumps in a row today for the first time, of the both feet off the ground and not holding on to anything variety. Yay Kate!
