July 6, 2010

Kate realized just this morning that if she presses the fish's fin, his tail spins. It was quite a triumph.

Grace organized animals by type and called it her petting zoo. Then she called her sisters over to admire her creation.

A little dance to celebrate the grand opening.

Another pirouette.

Suki and Kate swing like monkeys in the zoo.

It's over 100 degrees here today, so we stayed indoors. Here, everyone practices the curves and lines used to draw letters.

Grace was a pro at this and Kate mostly scrawled, so this was mostly for Suki's benefit. Here she said to the spiders, "Hey buddies, get back to your webs." She cracks me up.

Then we put together our huge states puzzle. I love that all the states are separate on this one -- there are even pieces for the great lakes. They liked to talk about who they knew in each state, they talked about some of the landmarks they saw, Grace read the names of the states and even learned some of the capitals.

Musical Kate.

Grace really enjoyed spending time with this map. She pointed out how the Capitol building looks like the Taj Mahal and how the Wright brothers' plane in Kittyhawk reminds her of Granny and PaPa's condo at Calabash.

Suki colors a picture while Grace works on some math worksheets. She does love a worksheet.

Kate found plenty to occupy her time.

Suki reenacts the mermaid freak out. It's really not the same if you can't hear it, though.
