This morning we went to get Suki up from bed and found her lying on her bedroom floor barely able to breathe. We put her in her bed and listened to her gasping for breath and she was so listless, so worn out from her coughing and inability to get air that there was no question that we had to get her help.
We gave the girls breakfast while we pulled everything together that we'd need, a list of all of her current medications, her red dog, etc.
Kate went to get her shoes, certain that she would be coming with us. You can see David hurrying by in the kitchen.
Obviously I wasn't snapping pictures during the first couple of hours we were at the hospital -- Suki was really struggling to breathe, struggling with all of the people rushing in and out to check her and administer the new medications, etc. It was hard but such a relief to be where there was help immediately available if things took a turn for the even worse. Later, she enjoyed coloring her ER coloring pages and using the stickers to decorate the inside.
Back at the hospital, Suki was really starting to perk up. We played baseball with her crayons as a bat and the box as a ball. We removed the tray from this table and used it as a hoop for basketball, with red dog as the ball. We made trees from the crayons and balled up tissues at the top and then Suki knocked the forest over and cackled. We sang songs and translated colors and talked about her favorite television characters. We had a lot of time on our hands.
A nurse brought Suki a snack of juice, peanut butter and graham crackers while we waited for the results of her xrays. Soon after, Suki's doctor came in with her diagnosis: acute bronchospasm, acute bronchitis, also likely RSV but happily no pneumonia. She got a massive dose of steroids while we were at the ER and we'll follow up with her pediatrician on Tuesday. We are so glad she is feeling better and so fortunate to have quick access to the health care that we do.
