Dad holds a surprisingly sleepy Kate. She was also surprisingly sick in this corner just moment later, we didn't know what to make of it because she seemed completely fine right afterward. I tell you, this is foreshadowing.
On our farm walk. As you can see, Grace has only one shoe (she said her foot hurt and preferred to go without her croc). There was a considerable amount of crankiness on the walk, it as not our traditional fun time.
I panicked when I went to wake Suki from her nap on our bed -- I couldn't find her anywhere in the partially darkened room. I finally found her sleeping here, blending in with the throw at the foot of the bed.
When Kate woke up from her nap, she'd spiked a fever over 102. As we took her temperature every fifteen minutes or so, it climbed rapidly. Once it tipped over 104, we knew we had to get her to the Emergency Room, so David packed her in the car.
And then, right before bed, Grace's fever started to climb. When it tipped over 102 just before bedtime and we still had no diagnosis for Kate, I decided to pack her into Grady's truck for a ride to the ER three hours after her sister went.
A significantly happier Kate. Look at this photo -- I couldn't believe it was the same gown from October 2007.
Oh, there were so many firsts here in the ER, many new tests were run that these girls had never heard of before. And in the end, the diagnosis was an unspecified virus, we were given medication to dampen Kate's nausea and were told about the course of fever reducers we should administer at home. We didn't leave until after 1 am and were so relieved to be home and in bed at 2. We were most relieved that our girls didn't have anything that required them to be admitted. Kate still has bruising five days later from where the nurses unsuccessfully tried to put in an IV but that was the extent of the long lasting effects.
