Today was Suki's first day of preschool!

It was also Grace's first day of kindergarten!

My merry little trio.

Actually, Grace was not -super- merry because she really wanted to bring Gorilla to kindergarten. It's not allowed by the teacher and we knew we had to stay strong from the first day on... but she couldn't stop trying to negotiate about it. And the hill to school is very steep. So she sought some comfort from David on the way up.

We are not a speedy people under the best of circumstances, and so we got to the school yard just as Grace's teacher was taking her class in. She quickly joined the line, there was time for a quick hug and kiss from David and me and then she was off.

Suki and Kate spent some time on the playground afterward.

Have you ever seen taller slides?

It wasn't easy on me, Grace's hasty departure. Let's just say there were some tears and a sneaky expedition to "check on paperwork" in the main office while trying to sneak a peek into Grace's classroom via a reflection in the trophy case across the hall. It didn't work.

Heading across the park and home.

We stopped by the mall (again!) so that David could get a hair cut. Kate loved this "doll."

A little celebratory lunch before we headed over to drop off Suki.

Outside the school.

And inside. Suki so easily joined the other kids and started chatting them up right away.

David got this shot of Grace, her teacher and some of the rest of her class before she spotted him.

Patting a dog outside the school.

Grace got to have some one on one time with David at the same playground Suki and Kate enjoyed this morning.

You only get a shot like this if you're racing down the next slide over.

Suki shows off the flower she made at preschool.

Our back to school party tonight.

We share treats and gifts and talk about how school is a gift and learning is sweet.

Grace and her littlest pet shop toys.

Suki and her new game.

And David, with his Stephen Hawking action figure -- he was celebrated too, because he starts his new job tomorrow.
