October 9, 2010

Today our little family split up for two very different kinds of fun -- first, we all got together for coffee hour (and some quick computer games).

Suki, Kate and I went to New Hampshire to visit my Aunt Tessie. We love her, and love being close enough for a quick visit now! Kate was very sweet and thanked her great great aunt, Suki pulled this face because she knew I would not open her animal crackers unless she thanked Tessie for them.

We chatted for a little while at her apartment and then went to lunch.

Pouty Kate, for what reason I cannot imagine.

Looking at the dessert carousel.

The waitress promised cupcakes, and when she came back to the table she reported that there were none. Ugh. But on the upside, there were whoopie pies and the girls delighted in their flat cupcakes.

Outside Tessie's apartment.

Meanwhile, Grace was out for a day of sciency fun with David. She took the subway to Northeastern all by herself! Just kidding. But she did enjoy the train ride.

Along the way, they passed an Au Bon Pain and caught a whiff of the deliciousness within. Grace promptly suggested a quick second breakfast, and David accommodated.

Measuring the speed of light by melting chocolate in a microwave.

Examining the antlion, and dropping flies to their doom!

Code breaking by coloring in the spaces with a 1, not with a 0, to reveal a picture.

Trying to make an egg float in saline water.

Creating solar cells. Grace's were the most efficient of the day -- yay Grace!

Creating an electroscope to test the charge of different objects.

Making a density rainbow by floating colored liquids on top of each other.

Petting the Bearded Dragon!

Standing with the husky mascot of Northeastern.

Beside the hostas.

She had such a great day out at this reverse science fair sponsored by the Science Club for Girls.

In front of the Boston Public Library.

Lunch with David.

And then time for some dessert.

Riding the train back home.
