More experienced parents will know that when you see a seemingly sweet scene like this and you go to grab the camera because, you know, "sisters being sweet! Lovely." What you should be doing is grabbing paper towels and running like mad because it turns out that out of reach empty diet coke can was neither out of reach nor empty at all and these two are dabbling like little ducks in a pond and splashing soda all over themselves. Messy, very messy.
She was very pleased with herself. As a mother, I am contractually obligated to encourage this activity rather than shriek and pull her away from the stairs as is my wont.
She got her special birthday crown and birthday name tag and she and Suki played while her classmates arrived.
We were lucky that the school was on a two hour delay in opening. That way we could be there for the reading of the story, the questioning in the birthday chair and then the eating of the cupcakes.
Eating her cupcake after the reading of the book. She chose special duck candies to top each cupcake and butterfly plates and napkins for her Butterfly class.
Grace had a pretty tough time with the idea of us leaving her there -- she doesn't typically have any issue with a drop off but the combination of a two hour late opening plus a birthday celebration with us in her class made it hard for her to feel flexible enough for us to get out the door without tears. Since school was set to get out in half an hour anyway, we all just decided to call it a day and all depart at the same time. Still, a fun day and we're so glad we all got to celebrate with her class.
