November 15, 2008

The best of the lot of us getting ready to celebrate Suki's party with friends.

Allison and Erin greet Grace.

Marcia and Valentina join in.

Renee rounds out this happy corner.

Erin and Lauren chat with Suki.

Grace and her dad.

Showing off her hat from Granny.

With Natalia and Beth.

Decorating Suki with necklaces.

Grace just loves big kids.

Kate naps happily.

Regina hangs out with David and Suki for a few minutes.

Nishani, Jalal and Jeremy.

Pinata time with Jenny and a blond girl whose name I never did catch.

Grace amidst the pinata fray.

This is just a small portion of the party guests -- because this was a joint party with our friend Sean, it was a pretty large group.

So cute!

Nicole and Mia are the new faces in this shot.

Mia and Beth talk to Suki while Grace hangs out with her dad.

A goodbye hug from Erin.

They just love each other.

Oh, here is a sad story from today's party. I told Suki to join her dad on the other side of this table so that she could get a cupcake. It was fine until she was told wasn't allowed to touch the cupcake until after the candle was blown out.

Oh, she was not pleased. This is Sean, her birthday friend and his mom Sarah. She is lighting candles as fast as she can.

Trying to grab the cupcake, Suki will not be deterred.

Hopping up to voice her displeasure.

Dad blows out her candles for her but Suki doesn't even notice, she's so wrapped up in her fury.

You'd think she'd be happy now, right?

Not Sook. I don't think she believed she could really eat it at this point, we were probably setting her up for another fake out.

Dad offers her the cupcake again and...

...down to the floor it goes. I think this is when it starts to click for Suki that it was a bad choice to fling her treat down.

You know we would never treat a tantrum like this in such a way but... it was a tough time for Suki and not all that comfortable for her to be with so many new people and then the cupcake withholding... it was all too much. So we gave her another cupcake.

She took a good look...

...and then she finally got a bite.

Grace loved her pink cupcake.

Clearly fine with her new cupcake.

Awake!

Marcia was such a great help to Grace.

Kate loved looking over and smiling at Scout and Shannon.

Then everyone took some rides on the merry go round! Our party was supposed to be outside but the storms got so bad today that there were tornado warnings. So we moved it to the food court -- it worked out well enough, I think.

Funny baby!

All done on the carousel.

A group hug at the end of the party.

After nap time, we gave Suki our gift, a giant cardboard playhouse for her to color.

This was one of my favorite toys from my childhood and it made me so happy to see my girls loving it too.

Of course the balloons were the best part for her, I think.

The ribbons were another close contender for best gift.

Playing with the clown ring stack from Aunt Tina and Uncle Steve -- they loved it!

A kiss for Grace.

Dad helps Suki figure out the crocodile.

Playing with her new hand drums.

Unwrapping some presents from earlier in the day.

Reviewing a new Wonder Pets coloring book. You'll notice Grace "helping" her sister with some gift opening.

Cupcake time with a candle holder from our family set. I just love it.
It went better this time -- we were better prepared with an unwrapped cupcake and an easily removable candle.

A quick book with Dad before bed.

Happy birthday, sweet Suki.
