January 15, 2013

Scientist Kate wanted to try her hand at making rainbow sugar crystals.

Chess with birthday David.

The ice cream cake!

First, dinner.

Love these silly faces.

All ready for gifts and cake!

Kate wrapped and gave...

...a piece of curling ribbon.  Her idea was that he loves Christmas and this way he'd have a jump start on decorating for next year.  Fortunately, David is the sort to appreciate a gift like that in the spirit in which it's given.

She was just so proud of herself, of her thoughtfulness.

Suki created a dragon with flapping wings and labeled it David the Dragon.  Needless to say, also well loved by David.

Grace had worked hard on her gift as well -- she embellished a moleskine grid notebook with a dragon drawing.

So proud and happy -- I love seeing these girls make their gifts.

Reviewing the many birthday cards.

Cake time!

Then it was time for a little dancing -- Beauty and the Beat plus More than a Feeling.

After the girls were in bed, a friend sat in the house while David and I went out to get some sushi at a local restaurant.  It really was such a fun way to celebrate a birthday.
