March 4, 2012

The water hole birthday cake Grace asked me to make for her birthday party.

The favors for the party.

Birds in their nests on snowy birch logs -- they were basically crackers without the snaps because we all suspected Grace would not love the noise of the snaps.

The rest of the party had a winter bird craft theme. We put pictures on the inside of the french doors and origami birds all over the place.

Our birthday pennant and the bird mobile we made.

Our little snack buffet.

Because it's cold and flu season, we opted to label the snack portions and water bottles.

Craft one: painting birdhouses.

Craft two: making birdfeeders with pinecones, peanut butter and colorful birdseed.

An impromptu dance party.

Craft three: embellishing paper mache eggs so they looked like different creatures. Or people. Or whatever. We had to move to the floor for this one because our table was such a huge mess of water, paint, peanut butter and bird seed.

Giselle shows Grace her egg creature.

Nicole, Alexandra, Justin and Emerson at the back, Grace, Giselle, Hannah and Ben at the front. We were glad to have this sweet group; illness and a Boy Scout award banquet prevented a few other guests from joining us.

Waiting for cake!

I imagined the sophisticated nature and increasing maturity of seven year olds would not lead to a scene like this, I was very happy to see that I was wrong.

Gift opening time!

Such a great party.

Earlier in the day, Suki'd been carted back off to the pediatrician because her cough is so wretchedly bad again.

They listened to her and then sent her off for two chest x-rays.

All gowned up. She did so well!

Two stickers for her two x-rays.

Watching 101 Dalmatians on the way to Dadventures.

Today they had to find a place out of the house that they could enjoy while feeling under the weather, where they wouldn't be around other kids to spread their illness, that didn't cost any money and wasn't outdoors. So they went to PetSmart.

Kate was not pleased when a two year old boy tapped on the glass to get a cat's attention, so she pointed and read the sign to him. Helpfully.

They had a lot of fun, though Kate managed to begin displaying symptoms of the dreaded pinkeye while out. Back home for the night, she started a round of antibiotics for her eye and Suki started a new round of prednisone and a new medication to suppress her cough at night. Cannot wait for spring when we will surely feel a bit better!
