This afternoon we dropped Grace and Suki off at their friend Mia's house to play. Kate had an appointment with a pediatric cardiologist and we knew her sisters would not think that was a good time.
As we were being discharged on Friday, the pediatrician on call gave Kate a final once over, she detected a non-innocent heart murmur.
Kate gets checked out with an EKG. She was relaxed through most of the painless procedure to detect electrical activity but did not like it when the adhesive electrodes were removed.
Thank goodness there are professionals to read this thing. It revealed a small hole between her left and right ventricles. There was also a flap between the right and left atrium that is usually pushed closed at birth and this did not happen in Kate's heart. The good news is that these problems are not expected to cause any real effects for her and should resolve themselves within 6-12 months. We've got a follow up appointment scheduled for the beginning of October and it's hard to imagine how much different our lives will be then!
