June 3, 2013

All set for Moving Up Day at school! In our district, schools only run from k-2, and then 3rd-5th graders are in a separate, upper elementary.  Grace has been corresponding with a third grader for a few weeks now, so when they went to their new school, she got to meet her pen pal, have lunch with her, and get the lay of the land.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, there was much woe.  What started as a fun game of chase went all wrong when Kate unexpectedly doubled back to try to do a surround and catch me.  I raced around a corner, popped her in the mouth, and one of her two extremely loose bottom teeth got a whole lot looser.  She'd been excited to lose these teeth, but the sight of a spot of blood on her gums made her super worried.  Suki was earnest about trying to help, bringing Kate water, tissues, Dirty Pengy and even Red Dog and Little Red Dog to assist.

Suki puts on a little play with Red Dog helping Little Rad Dog, who had a loose tooth too.

I offered to help Kate, but she declined.  And when she removed the tooth, her relief was incredible to see.

Suki and Kate shake hands at the conclusion of a game.

Suki's very special ring went into school in this pocket...

...but didn't make it back home.  She came off the bus sobbing.  And so we did a quick search on the bus and then headed back to school to check the office, halls, cafeteria, lost and found, and then the classroom.  Her teacher actually had the ring in her pocket when we got there, and there was much rejoicing.  Her teacher commented with surprise when she saw how genuinely happy Grace and Kate were for Suki, grinning and hugging and celebrating.  Love how close these girls are.  Here, they're looking into Grace's classroom.
