October 17, 2010

We were off to the pumpkin patch today to choose our Halloween pumpkins. We chose the Pickard Farm based on a lucky Google hunch and were so glad we did. Very close by, so beautiful, and these baby cows were a big hit with everyone.

We took a hay ride out to the pumpkin fields to choose our mighty squashes.

Into the fields!

There were so many pumpkins chosen and replaced. The trickiest part was the way that what was appealing to their eyes was not so appealing to their biceps.

Admiring the little stream that runs through the property.

David explains why a pumpkin with a crack, even a small one, is not a good choice for a holiday that is two weeks away yet.

Back to the calves.

There was a bit of annoyance when the calves wanted to take a little rest in their barn rather than entertain the troops -- we tried encouraging them out but it was for naught.

There were some interesting biplanes flying overhead and Kate was fascinated.

We left with our five pumpkins and everyone smelled of woodsmoke from the fire there. So perfectly fall-like.

On the way home, we stopped at a farm stand near Walden Pond and bought some tiny apple and pumpkin pies. Then we hiked through the park around Walden Pond itself.
