The doctor detected a problem, and so Suki was referred for an immediate ultrasound of her heart. Her spirits stayed strong, though. It turns out she has a ventricular septal defect that had gone undetected in all these years. The good news is there is no surgery required, no exercise restrictions needed, and we just need to keep an eye out for a few things and return for a follow up visit when she is eight. The bad news is that because she hasn't outgrown this by this age, she is unlikely to do so, and so the (small) risks of infection will probably remain with her. I was so proud of the way she handled her exams today! |
